Shown opposite is a typical caravan application comprising of a single12 volt battery.
With this arrangement when the changeover switch is set to read voltage the DPM62VA can monitor the battery voltage. When the changeover switch is positioned to read current the instrument will read the current flowing in the load circuit.The standard shunt size is rated at 40Amps. It is possible to monitor a larger current using a larger shunt with different current scaling of the instrument. Shunt values available are 40, 50, 75, 100, 130, 175A.This simple set up can give an indication as to the state of the battery and further circuit options will allow monitoring of charging current from an engine alternator or charger and/or solar/wind systems.
